      Never, Never Give Up

We often hear people say, “Never give up.” These can be encouraging wordsand words of determination. A person who believes in them will keep trying toreach his goal no matter how many times he fails. In my opinion, the quality ofdetermination to succeed is an important one to have. Therefore, I believe thatwe should never give up.

One reason is that if we give up too easily, we will rarely achieveanything. It is not unusual for us to fail in our first attempt at somethingnew, so we should not feel discouraged and should try again. Besides, if wealways give up when we fail, we will not be able to develop new skills and growas people. Another reason we should never give up is that we can learn from ourmistakes only if we make a new effort. If we do not try again, the lesson wehave learned is wasted. Finally, we should never give up because as we work toreach our goals, we develop confidence, and this confidence can help us succeedin other areas of our lives. If we never challenge ourselves, we will begin todoubt our abilities.

In short, it is important that we do not give up when working for ourgoals. Whether we succeed in the end or not, we will learn something, and whatwe learn will help us to become better, more confident people. Furthermore, ifwe give up, we have non chance of attaining our goals, but if we keep trying, there is always a chance that we will succeed one day.

enjoy yourself while fulfilling responsibility in my 18 years of life, there have been many things. university days are the best part of them. i cannever forget the days when i stepped into my university. i was impressed by itsgarden-like campus, its enthusiastic students and especially its learningatmosphere. i at once fell in love with it.

after the arduous military training, i get absolutely absorbed in mystudies. the classes given by the teachers are excellent. they provide us withinformation not only from our textbooks but from many other sources as well.they easily arouse my insatiable desire to take in as much as i can.

frankly speaking, at first i had some difficulty following the teachers.however, through my own efforts and thanks to my teachers' guidance, i maderemarkable progress. now i've benefited a lot from lectures and many otheracademic reports.

learning is a long process; i'll keep exploring in the treasure house ofknowledge to enrich myself. this summer i got out of the ivory tower and enteredthe real world. a publishing house offered me a part-time job in compilation andrevision.

at the beginning i was belittled by my colleagues. but they were reallysurprised when i translated seven english articles over 5,000 words on only oneday. gradually, they began to look at me with respectful eyes. in their opinioni turned out to be a useful and trustworthy colleague.

i also realize that only those who bring happiness for others can be trulyhappy. so i often take part in activities concerning public welfare. i once wentto a barren mountain village with my classmates. we taught the kids there whocould not afford school. while showing them how broad and how civilized theouter world is, i was deeply touched by their eagerness to learn, their honestyand their purity. i couldn't control my tears on the day when we left. theprecious experience with the poor kids made me aware of the responsibility onthe shoulders of us, future teachers.

besides study and social practice, there are entertainments as well. i dobody building every day, hoping to keep healthy and energetic. we also write aplay and put it on in our spare time.

campus life is the most splendid time. but different people have differentchoices. the majority of students cherish their beautiful season and cherish thehope that one day they'll become outstanding. but there are indeed some studentsstill under ignorance. they gather together for eating, drinking or playingcards. they're busy in searching for a girlfriend or a boyfriend. they forgetcompletely about their mission as college students and the hope of theirmotherland.

finally, i do hope everybody can try their best to become a worthy citizenof the country. i do hope everybody can become the backbone of our nation andmake great contributions to society!

i have been in university for about one year. during my stay here, i cameto realize that university life is like drinking coke. we experience all tastesof life here, sour, sweet, bitter and hot.

i am from province, which is far away from here. i often miss my mum, friends, and relatives in my hometown. however, i can't see them very often. soloneliness always keeps me company. i am sad that i can't be there withthem.

lucky for me, life in university is rich and colorful. with more freetime,we can do many more things besides study, such as joining societies clubs, and taking part-time jobs. such activities not only make our life more colorful, but also help us improve all kinds of skills. the university is a societyminiature, what we learn here will benefit our future life.

our path in life will not always be smooth. setbacks can't be avoided.failing an important exam, break up with boy or girl friend, or refused by apromising company, such setbacks are likely to get us down. sometimes we fell sofrustrated that we even burst into tears.

drinkin coke is wonderful, despite the undesirble consequent hiccups. it'sbitter, sour and peppery, but also sweet. and you'll even feel excited aftergulping down a glass. a college experience is part of growing up. we cry, smile, fall in love, get hurt, leave, learn and then we become a better person.

university life is like drinking coke. i'm experiencing it. and i know, ienjoy it!

Last month, I happened to watch an interview of a Chinese student studyingabroad. At one point the hostess asked: "For how long have you been away fromhome?" "Three years," he said. "How do you keep in touch with your parents?" "Wewrote emails," the young man replied proudly. "Then I guess your parents learnedhow to send an email just because of you, right?" Having heard this from thehostess, the young man was speechless for a long time. Indeed, in the worldtoday, it is not easy for the elder generation to keep up to date with the rapiddevelopment of technology.

This story reminded me of my concerns when I first left home for collegethree years ago: My parents don't understand English. They couldn't identify thebuttons marked in English on our remote controls. So when I was away from home, who would help them select Chinese subtitles when they wanted to watch a foreignmovie on our DVD? My parents don't use pinyin, the phonetic symbols for Chinese. Therefore, they couldn't input Chinese characters into their cell phones usingthe keyboard. Without me, whom could they depend on when they needed to reply toa text message? I worried a lot, so before I left, I carefully prepared a flowchart on how to operate the DVD player, and stored as many template messages inmy parents' phones as I could possibly think of.

Fortunately, my efforts did work for my parents. However, what makes memore optimistic is that society at large is becoming more concerned about theelder generation, and the fruit of technological innovation is no longerbelieved to be an asset only for the young people. Today, with simple Chineseinstructions on the remote control, even my 80-year-old grandfather can play hisfavorite TV program on a DVD. Last year, with the money I earned from apart-time job, I bought my mother a new cell phone which supports handwrittenmessages instead of inputting words through a keyboard. And now, my mother nolonger has to use the templates messages I've stored for her, instead, she nowsends me messages as long as 300 words. The joy I have when reading those textmessages is inexpressible, not only because of the words she writes, but alsobecause our technology has indeed become a real blessing in her life.

Two years ago, the counter service in our neighborhood bank was replaced byan ATM station. With those intelligent machines, people can carry out all theirregular banking services. My father, however, was not used to such a change.Thereafter, he always walked three blocks further to a bank with a counter touse their services. In the future, however, this will no longer happen, becausewhen I went to that ATM station again last spring festival, I found a delightfulchange: the terminals there have adopted a voice guidance system. While I wasthere, I noticed a grey haired man using the voice instructions. And despite hishesitation between pressing the buttons, he left the bank with a satisfactorysmile. What a marvel! My vision for the future was unfolding before my veryeyes. At that moment, I rejoiced thinking of my father, someday, standing thereusing the banking service. I rejoiced thinking of myself that when I become old,the new inventions can still ease my life rather than making the lifeharder.
